Independent guide

About this independent Guaraná Antarctica guide

A guide to one Brazilian soda as it is sold in the US: which cans and bottles exist, what their labels say, and what each pack costs in our last update.

What this site is

This is an independent guide to Guaraná Antarctica, the guaraná-flavored soft drink from Brazil. It is not the brand's website and does not speak for the company that makes the drink. The drink belongs to Ambev, the Brazilian brewer that is part of AB InBev; neither of them asked for this site, pays for it or reviews it.

We wrote it because buying the soda in the US is more confusing than it needs to be. The same cans appear under many product pages at very different prices, some boxes are not what their titles say, and the question people ask most, how much caffeine is in a can, has no answer on the label.

Every product page here describes Guaraná Antarctica cans and bottles as it is sold today. Questions about this guide go to fizzdesk@guaranaantarctica.co.

What Guaraná Antarctica is

A carbonated soft drink flavored with extract of guaraná, the seed of a climbing plant from the Amazon that carries more caffeine than coffee. The product description of its 2-liter bottle says it was launched in 1921, and the brand's Brazilian product page gives the origin of its guaraná as Maués, in the state of Amazonas.

In the US it comes in three recipes: the Original with sugar, Zero Sugar with aspartame and acesulfame potassium, and a white Diet can still sold by resellers. The cans hold 350 ml, the bottles 2 liters.

Where the figures come from

Pack counts, sizes and ingredient lists come from the product data of each pack. Nutrition figures are read off the labels in the product photographs: the front panel of a 350 ml can and the Nutrition Facts box on a 2-liter bottle. Each product page says which label a figure comes from, and where no label states something, as with caffeine, the page says that instead of guessing.

Prices come from our catalog updates, which run several times a month. The method page gives the date of the last one.

How the site is paid for

Each shopping button opens the pack at our retail partner, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases. It adds nothing to your price and does not decide the order of the products, which are listed by recipe and by how many people have rated them. The affiliate disclosure has the details.

Questions

About Guaraná Antarctica and this guide

What is Guaraná Antarctica?

A Brazilian soft drink flavored with guaraná, a caffeine-rich seed from the Amazon. The product description of its 2-liter bottle says it was launched in 1921. It is sold in cans and bottles, as the sugar-sweetened Original, as Zero Sugar and as Diet.

Who makes Guaraná Antarctica?

Ambev, the Brazilian brewer that is part of AB InBev. The label on the 2-liter bottle names Ambev S.A. as the maker and says it is made in Brazil for export.

Who runs this guide?

Its editors, who have no tie to Ambev or AB InBev. We earn a commission when you buy through our buttons; the affiliate disclosure explains how.

Where do the label figures on this site come from?

From the product data of each pack and from the labels that can be read in its photographs. Each figure says which label it comes from, and caffeine is printed nowhere because no label we read states it.
